ECYS Weekend Madrasah Teacher Vacancy

Job Title: Madrasah Teacher

Location: Unit 11, Harold Hill, RM3 8TD

Work Hours: Saturdays & Sundays, 9:50am-1:50pm.

Qualifications:

  • The suitable candidate will have completed Islamic Studies courses that demonstrate
  • their ability to teach the Madrasah syllabus set by Essex Cultural & Youth Society as
  • outlined in the job description below.
  • They will be able to demonstrate experience of teaching in a traditional Madrasah
  • setting, such as learning sitting on the floor and ensuring students maintain the
  • Madrasah uniform and high standards of behaviour.
  • As class students are of mixed ages and abilities, the teacher must be able to
  • differentiate and set homework and targets that are suitable.
  • As the teachers are integral spiritual and religious role models for their students and
  • within the community, they will be expected to maintain an exemplary standard of
  • religious manners and presentation.
  • As we operate in a mixed cultured society, it is highly preferred the suitable candidate
  • can converse in Urdu and Arabic, but must be proficient in reading, writing and
  • speaking in English. A good standard of IT skills are required to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Notion Databases, and appropriate software to manage Madrasah fees records.

Job Description:

  • Teaching the Madrasah syllabus to boys and girls aged 4-16 years old as detailed below.
  • Teaching how to read Arabic using Ahsanul Qawaaid, with full spelling of each lesson.
  • Teaching proficient Qur’an reading, Qur’an memorisation, and Tajweed rules with their
  • application.
  • Teaching Fiqh, Hadith, Duas, Salaah, and Islamic etiquettes as per ‘Tasheel’ series, Safar Academy, An-Nasihah, Ta’leemul Haq, or whichever books the Madrasah may adopt.
  • The candidate will liaise with their line manager regarding the syllabus books used.
  • The teacher should engage students in discussions relevant to the Islamic calendar and
  • current affairs, and nurture within them a genuine understanding and conviction of
  • the Islamic core beliefs and practices.
  • Students should individually have daily assessments to ensure adequate progress with
  • their Qaidah/Qur’an reading. The teacher should recognise pupil achievement and
  • encourage progress, such as by awarding certificates.
  • Daily lessons should be planned with set targets and outcomes.
  • Positive strategies should be adopted to support learning for those students who may
  • have a learning difficulty or are struggling to progress.
  • Parents should be kept up to date with their child’s progress.
  • The suitable candidate should be able to prepare annual mock and final exams (oral
  • and written) that reflect the syllabus covered and students’ abilities. On completion of
  • the exam, the teacher is expected to grade students, and work with Imam Sahib to
  • prepare for the Madrasah’s annual Awards Ceremony and partake in the event to
  • celebrate students’ achievements.
  • ECYS endeavours to hold boys’ youth events once a month, on a Saturday evening, to support the Madrasah students’ social and spiritual growth, and connect them and their families with the Mosque community. The suitable candidate would be integral to organising and managing these boys’ youth events. This includes promoting the event, working with Imam Sahib to recruit suitable supporting volunteers for the event, arranging a range of positive youth activities for the duration of the event that supports social and
  • spiritual growth, working with ECYS to organise a meal for the event, and ensuring the
  • premises remain clean and safe at all times.
  • As a religious teacher, the suitable candidate should be able to offer pastoral care and
  • guidance, particularly to students who may be facing challenging circumstances in
  • their family or school life.
  • ECYS organises annual Madrasah excursions, which the suitable candidate will be
  • expected to help organise and take part in and be responsible for their class.
  • The suitable candidate will be a representative of Essex Cultural & Youth Society, and should support the overall objectives of the charity, and in particular, actively engage to provide constructive feedback to support the growth and development of the Madrasah.
  • The suitable candidate will support the Madrasah in its fundraising initiatives and other promotional endeavours such as cake sales and other sponsorship ideas.
  • The suitable candidate will attend quarterly meetings with their line manager to discuss the overall role and any other relevant matters.

Gross Salary: £5,408.00 (includes 8 days paid holidays)
